Confidentiality & Privacy Policy
I will treat respectfully and ethically all the information you share with me. It is your legal right that our sessions and my records about you are kept private. Therefore, I will require you sign a "Release of Information" form before I discuss anything about you or send my records about you to anyone else. In general, I will not disclose any of the information you share with me, or even reveal that you are receiving treatment from me.
I will adhere faithfully to all federal and state laws and by the rules of my profession that protect your confidentiality. There are a few rare exceptions in which I am required to breach confidentiality. Below are the most frequent cases in which confidentiality is not protected:

If you are court-ordered to receive psychotherapy, the court will likely require a report from me.

If you are engaged in a lawsuit or charged with a crime and you tell the court you are seeing me, I may be ordered by the judge to show my records.

If I believe a child or vulnerable adult has been abused or neglected, I am legally required to report this to the authorities.

If you make a serious threat to harm yourself or someone else, the law requires I try to protect you or that other person. I will make every effort to enlist your cooperation in ensuring yours or another's safety, however, if you do not cooperate, I will take further measures without your permission.

If a pregnant woman is using controlled substances (cocaine, heroin, amphetamines, methamphetamines, or PCP), I am required to report this to the authorities.
